A meaty heist at a Safeway in Cupertino was thwarted last week by the keen observation of a store employee and the swift actions of the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office. As reported by the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office via a social media post, two suspects made off with over $1,000 worth of premium beef, but not without drawing the attention of an employee who not only witnessed the theft but also noted the details needed to foil the thieves' getaway plan.
After shoplifting the steaks at the Safeway on Homestead Road, the suspects escaped in a black Toyota Prius, described by the observant Safeway employee who also procured the vehicle's license plate number. The Deputy, identified as Velasco by the Sheriff's post, received a commendation for rapid intervention in the case, apprehending the suspects at the residence linked to the registered owner of the getaway car.
The suspects have been booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail, according to the Sheriff's Office.
