The Miami Valley Drug Task Force recently made a significant drug bust in Dayton, seizing 10 kilograms of cocaine estimated to be valued at nearly $1 million. In a substantial blow against narcotics trafficking in Ohio, the seizure followed a long-term investigation, which concluded with the arrest of 46-year-old Maurice Sallis on January 9.
Attorney General Dave Yost was determined and straightforward in his warning to drug traffickers: "Drug traffickers beware – Ohio is not a destination for your poison," as stated by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost's office. The task force's approach involved tracking individuals who transport drugs across the nation using public transportation, which ultimately led to Sallis's arrest with the illicit cargo.
In his remarks on the case, Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck highlighted the significance of the operation, affirming, "Taking 10 kilos of cocaine off the streets is no small feat. It’s thanks to the coordination and commitment of this task force that we can prevent these dangerous drugs from reaching our neighborhoods." Streck lauded the efforts of the team behind the seizure for their role in enhancing regional safety and preventing potential crime and overdoses, as mentioned in the official release from Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost's office.
Angie M. Salazar, the special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigation in Detroit, praised the collaborative efforts in bringing the traffickers to justice. "These partnerships continue to disrupt drug trafficking organizations and are important milestones to holding traffickers accountable," she told the Ohio Attorney General's office. The Miami Valley Major Drug Task Force, under the leadership of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission's organizational umbrella, comprises several law enforcement entities, including state highway patrol and local police departments. The investigation by the task force is still active.
With federal drug trafficking charges anticipated, the arrest and seizure represent a tactical victory in the ongoing war on drugs.
