U.S. Marshals have carried out an arrest in Delray Beach, associated with a fatal incident that took place just before the Christmas holidays, as reported by local authorities. The Delray Beach Police Department confirmed the apprehension of James Jones, 39, yesterday afternoon, in a joint effort with the U.S. Marshals Service, as detailed on the city's official website.
The arrest circles back to a December 23, 2024 shooting at Bi-Lo Market, where 30-year-old Timmy Hayes was fatally wounded, Jones is now facing a first-degree murder charge, the authorities responded to the scene that morning following reports of gunfire, discovering Hayes with a fatal gunshot wound, subsequently pronouncing him deceased at the location. The Delray Beach Police underscored that initial evidence suggested a targeted attack, which meant there was not a perceived continued danger to the surrounding community.
Evidence that proved vital in the identification of Jones as the prime suspect came from surveillance footage obtained at the scene of the crime. This footage allowed investigators to associate Jones with the shooting incident, and according to the same source, these findings were key in pinpointing Jones' alleged involvement.
The investigation continues and authorities have not released further details regarding the motives behind the shooting or whether additional suspects may be involved. In handling the case, U.S. Marshals and Delray Beach Police have shown a continued collaboration in addressing and following through with serious criminal matters in the local jurisdiction.
