After more than seven years since the fatal shooting that left one woman dead and another injured, a Denver man has confessed to the crime. Jesus Jurado-Lugo entered a guilty plea to charges of second-degree murder and second-degree assault about the 2017 incident that tragically ended Lydia Coronado's life at the age of 26. The Denver District Attorney's office shared that the plea agreement stipulates a prison sentence ranging from 30 to 45 years. Jurado-Lugo's admission of guilt finally brings some closure to a case that lingered for years.

The manhunt for Jurado-Lugo spanned international boundaries and culminated with his arrest in Mexico, as Denver law enforcement diligently worked to quickly ensure to apprehend the suspect. The extradition process brought him back to Denver in December of 2023, finally paving the way for legal proceedings. In a statement obtained by the Denver District Attorney's Office, Senior Chief Deputy District Attorney Khoury Dillon is recognized as the lead prosecutor on the case, with Randy Denison being credited as the lead investigator for the District Attorney’s Office.

Denver District Attorney John Walsh has lauded the resolution of this case as a testament to the persistent efforts of law enforcement and the judicial system, ensuring that those who commit violent crimes are held accountable. "I hope this plea provides a measure of comfort and a sense of justice for Lydia Coronado’s friends and family.  I am extremely pleased that Mr. Jurado-Lugo is now being held accountable and will pay a significant price for his heinous actions. I hope this case sends the message that, no matter how long it takes, violent criminals in Denver will be arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law," Walsh said, as obtained by the Denver District Attorney's Office.
