Maricopa is getting a big boost in cell service and internet speed. Efforts to improve connectivity are making progress, with major providers like CenturyLink, Orbitel, Cox Fiber, and Crown Castle investing in the city’s digital infrastructure.

Addressing the technical side of this deployment, Crown Castle, which specializes in shared infrastructure, allows for multiple carriers to utilize the same structures. This approach is expected to enhance network capabilities and simplify the expansion of services in the future. Charles Thomas III, Permitting, Utilities, & Engineering Manager with Crown Castle, lauded Maricopa's innovative strategies, “Maricopa is truly leading the way by adopting innovative technologies that are most beneficial for its residents. While other cities often follow the established paths of larger municipalities, Maricopa is proving itself as a leader in pioneering new approaches to connectivity and community development," he said, in a statement obtained by the City of Maricopa's official website.

The city administration has taken steps to facilitate the execution of these infrastructure projects, by streamlining permitting processes and fostering public-private partnerships. Engaging with the community is also a high priority – Maricopa is actively seeking input from both residents and businesses to ensure that the growth in digital services reflects the needs and concerns within the community. “We want Maricopa to continue to be a place that residents want to live for generations to come. That means taking an active approach working with service providers and developers alike to make sure our city has the infrastructure to serve our growing population,” Rodolfo Lopez, Director of Development Services shared with the City of Maricopa's news site.

Crown Castle also stresses their method's low impact on the community. Their microtrenching technology, which promises a less intrusive and faster fiber installation, is a game-changer. “We're committed to making infrastructure upgrades as seamless and efficient as possible. Our microtrenching technology allows for rapid fiber installation, drastically minimizing disruption to residents and traffic and almost eliminating the risk of utility strikes when using our technology,” Thomas III told the City of Maricopa news.

Following the current phase of Crown Castle's Small Cell Deployment plan, the company will link their infrastructure to within-home service providers. For a thorough understanding of what's coming to the city, check out the full scoop at the City of Maricopa's official website.
