Commuters in Downtown Miami should prepare for some changes starting next week. The Park West Metromover Station is set to temporarily close its gates on Monday, for a renovation sprint that's slated to last up to six months. This closure, according to the Miami-Dade County press release, is part of a broader effort to elevate the urban landscape of the Miami World Center area.
The Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW), in partnership with the Miami World Center developers, is to swiftly kickstart a series of improvements designed to modernize the station and enhance safety and the rider experience. Commuters navigating the night will especially benefit from the station's new, brighter lighting meant to create a safer and more inviting atmosphere.
While the station undergoes its transformation, Metromover trains will bypass Park West Station, but alternate stations aren't far off. Travelers can reach the Freedom Tower and Eleventh Street stations in about a three-minute walk, ensuring continued access to downtown destinations like the bustling Kaseya Center.
Park West Station is getting an upgrade with new platform tiles, refurbished escalators, and modern seating for riders. Fresh paint and sealing will give the concrete walls and ceiling a polished look. Similar updates at Freedom Tower and Museum Park Stations have improved connectivity, and this project aims to do the same for the community. Local officials and project leaders extend their gratitude to the public for their patience and cooperation as renovations take place, recognizing that disruptions are a small price for the long-term benefits to transit users, as per the county's press release.
