An 18-year-old man named Omar Rashad Teasley has been arrested and charged with the murder of Rashaka Black Prince, also 18, in a case that shook an east Charlotte neighborhood this past summer. As detailed in reports from WCNC Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers responded to a call on Cattail Court on July 18, where they discovered the victim, Prince, fatally wounded.
After a months-long investigation, Teasley now faces a murder charge. He was arrested on Monday, and appeared in court yesterday as per the WCNC Charlotte report. No bond has been set and Teasley's next court appearance is scheduled for January 17 at 1:30 p.m.
According to QCNews, the shooting occurred in the middle of the afternoon and Prince was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Neighbors previously described the community where the incident took place as typically peaceful. This violent event, they say, was out of the ordinary for the quiet street.
Further information from a WSOCTV news article reveals that Prince had been found shot in the street, contrary to earlier reports suggesting the shooting had occurred inside a house. Authorities have indicated that the incident was not a random act of violence, suggesting some level of premeditation or connection between the parties involved.
Currently held without bond at the Mecklenburg County Jail, Teasley's arrest uncloses a chapter for the relatives of Prince who have been awaiting justice.
