
An Eagle Mountain man, identified as Peterson Matheson, has been sentenced for a fatal road rage incident that took place in 2023. As per Fox13, Matheson pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges, admitting his role in the collision on state Route 73 which led to the deaths of two individuals.
During court proceedings, it was revealed that Matheson and another driver were engaged in an altercation on the road which resulted in Matheson colliding with an oncoming car, thereby causing fatalities despite this situation, a packed courtroom saw the sentencing judge reduced the charges from the second to third-degree felonies. KSLTV reports that the judge has ordered him to serve zero to five years for each count of manslaughter, which is to be served consecutively, which could amount to a maximum of ten years behind bars.
While the outcome of this case has been resolved, the involvement of the other driver in the incident is still pending resolution. "We’ll have a decision on that very soon. I would anticipate within the next two weeks," stated the prosecution in regards to the other driver's case, as documented by KUTV. The victim's family members were present during the sentencing and have been active in advocating for legislative change, culminating in increased penalties for road rage, although these enhanced penalties did not apply to Matheson's case.
