An early morning fire in a Davie mobile home claimed the lives of three dogs and sent one resident to the hospital, officials reported. The blaze began before daybreak, around 4:30 a.m., in a house within the vicinity of Southwest Eighth Street and Southwest 132nd Avenue, according to Local 10.
Fire crews rapidly responded to directly tackle the fire, which had engulfed the mobile home with flames visible to bystanders. A Sky 10 helicopter was over the scene, capturing firefighters as they actively doused the home with water. A battalion chief conveyed that two individuals were inside the residence when the fire erupted. One managed to escape unscathed, while the other was hospitalized in stable condition as stated by Local 10.
All three dogs that were in the home perished in the incident. The homeowner, recounting the harrowing events to WSVN, said, “The dog woke me up first. And then I heard this crackling sound and I couldn’t figure out what the crackling was. And[…] said sounds like somebody crackling paper,” continuing, "And then all of a sudden what I smelled was the smoke. And I said there’s smoke somewhere. I got up, walked into the kitchen and it was on fire. And then I yelled ‘fire’ to Reggie and he came out of the bathroom and we got out."
The home suffered extensive damage; still, neighboring units were fortunately not affected by the fire. The cause of the blaze remains to steadily be under investigation and has not yet been released to the public. Further details about the victims' conditions and the results of the investigation are expected to follow as they become available.
