Commuters who are planning on driving along EB I-70 near 27th Street this morning are to be prepared for a bit of a slowdown. According to MoDOT, utility scoping work will necessitate the closure of the right lane from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Thankfully, the 27th St. exit will keep functioning as usual, though everyone should still plan for potential delays during these hours.
The work ensures the utilities beneath our daily routes are kept in check but this means drivers need to remain vigilant and patient while the crews do their thing, especially since we all know not every work zone comes with the towering lights and orange cones we've learned to recognize. Sometimes it’s just a few trucks and workers, making necessary patches or shooing away debris from our paths and we owe them our cautious attention for the good of all on the road.
Moreover, MoDOT takes this opportunity to remind everyone who's steering a wheel in a work zone that they should take it slow and stay alert. These zones might appear as versatile as the city itself, including both stationary lane closures for swift fixes and mobile operations covering a breadth of maintenance tasks from striping lanes to trimming the green that flanks our highways.
