The Eden Prairie Police Department's Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) team has chalked up a record-breaking year. With a tally of 91 drone-related operations throughout the year, the sky has been busier than ever above Eden Prairie in 2024, according to the City of Eden Prairie. Drones have soared over the city, not only in search of missing or endangered individuals but also in the pursuit of fleeing suspects and various support roles for investigative efforts.
With an eye in the sky, these drones have become a critical asset for public safety. Notably, flying high above the treetops, the UAS team notched up a stark increase, deploying their drones 52 times for active missions in comparison to 40 deployments back in 2022, as per the City of Eden Prairie. Even routine drills and training, which accounted for 39 events, reflect the department's commitment to preparedness and proficiency.
The Eden Prairie team first assembled in 2020, is currently backed by four active high-tech drones. This composite team undergoes extensive training, ensuring operational standards remain high and public safety is not compromised.
