Colerain Township police have taken a suspect into custody following an incident involving gunfire at a local car dealership. Rashid Dewees, a 21-year-old employee at Joseph Chevrolet, was arrested after shots were fired within the dealership. The Colerain Avenue business became the scene of alarm at approximately 4 p.m. on Thursday as police responded to the event, according to The Enquirer.
The situation was swiftly controlled, with law enforcement securing the premises and arresting Dewees without additional incident. While the motives behind the shooting remain unclear, Dewees now faces charges of aggravated menacing and inducing panic. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries despite the presence of about 20 people in the dealership's showroom at the time of the shooting, as reported by an employee to FOX19 NOW. Upon their arrival, officers could successfully enter and quickly secure the building.
In light of this disruptive event, the Colerain Township Police Department is continuing its investigation and has contacted the community for information. "He's charged with aggravated menacing and inducing panic," detailed the report from Local12 about the arrest. The police ask anyone with insight into the incident to call (513)-321-2677.
This recent act of violence closely follows another shooting incident earlier in the month in Colerain Township. That altercation, taking place in the parking lots of a Walgreens and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, tragically resulted in two fatalities and left one injured. The community, now to directly face another gun-related scare, presses for calm and answers. Dewees is currently being held at Hamilton County Justice Center, where the investigation is ongoing, as The Enquirer reported.
