As Brickell Key prepares for a significant transformation, the Mandarin Oriental, Miami is counting down its final months of operation. After a notable 25-year run, the luxury hotel has announced, it will close its doors on May 31. But before bowing out, the hotel is set to celebrate its quarter-century legacy with a series of events, according to Miami New Times.
This closure is not merely an end but also a prelude to the Mandarin Oriental's next phase, a transformation featuring two new edifices that include residential spaces and a flagship hotel. The property will see a significant redevelopment with the partnership of Hong Kong-based Swire Properties, and will remain shuttered until 2030 when it is expected to re-emerge, remodeled and reimagined. The redesign plans to incorporate a South Tower with 228 residences, and a North Tower comprising both the hotel, including 121 rooms and 34 suites, and 66 private residences.
Flavia Daudan-Caponi, general manager of the Mandarin Oriental, Miami, reflected on the hotel’s past and impending closure, telling Miami New Times, “For 25 years, Mandarin Oriental, Miami has been a beloved part of this vibrant city. We are deeply grateful to our guests, colleagues, and the Miami community for their loyalty and support. As we close this chapter, we look forward to celebrating our legacy and welcoming everyone to experience a haven of craftsmanship and culture for one last time.”
Post-closure, Mandarin Oriental will not simply vanish from the Miami scene. The brand intends to open its Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Residences, in Boca Raton later in the year. This ongoing expansion is indicative of the brand's enduring presence in Florida. Meanwhile, in Miami, patrons can mark their calendars for events leading up to the closure, which includes a grand closing gala, to create one last set of memories at this iconic property.
