The Pima County Sheriff's Department reported the recapture of Elijah Palmer, a 35-year-old inmate who had escaped from the Arizona Department of Corrections last Saturday. Palmer, originally imprisoned for unlawful use of means of transportation and due to be released this coming May, was apprehended close to his escape point south of Interstate 10 near Kolb Road, according to a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix.
Palmer's escape prompted an immediate manhunt after he was found to be "unaccounted for" at around 4 a.m. on the day of his escape. Local law enforcement, along with the collaboration of DPS, U.S. Marshals, USBP, and AZ Rangers located Palmer shortly after 1:20 p.m. the same day, as per details shared by the Pima County Sheriff's Department in an article from 12 News.
Authorities haven't released details on how Palmer managed the escape or the exact timeline leading to his prompt recapture. Nevertheless, in the wake of this event, it remains to be seen whether it will prompt a review of security protocols at the Arizona State Prison Complex in Tucson.
