Residents of the Bear Hollow community in Garland, who were evacuated due to a "significant" gas leak, can now breathe a sigh of relief as authorities have lifted the evacuation orders. According to ABC4, the incident occurred when workers accidentally struck a 6-inch gas line which led to the emergency around 5 p.m.
Emergency crews, including the Garland City Fire Department, responded promptly to the scene. With the assistance of Enbridge, the cause of the leak was determined and, the shut-off of the affected pipe was executed. Entrances to the community, which had been sealed off to facilitate emergency operations, have also been reopened, as stated by KSLTV.
The gas leak caused the main and back entrances of the community to be closed temporarily, ensuring that the Box Elder County Sheriff's Office alongside fire department personnel and Enbridge Gas could address the issue safely and effectively. Through their coordinated efforts, the gas was shut off after three hours, allowing residents to safely return to their homes.
While it is not specified how many homes or residents were affected by the evacuations, the containment of the gas leak marks a swift resolution to a potentially dangerous situation. Amid the uncertainty, the essential communication between emergency services and the public stood as a bulwark against chaos, as reported by FOX13.
