Attention, drivers: if you're planning to hit Northbound Interstate 55 through New Madrid County in the coming days, be ready for some slowdowns. Due to bridge maintenance, a segment of the highway between mile marker 57.8 and mile marker 58.2, near Matthews, Missouri, is going to be constricted to a single lane. The Missouri Department of Transportation announced this change, noting that there's also going to be a 14-foot width restriction in place.
Construction will happen next week on Wednesday, February 5th and Thursday, February 6th, from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM each day. For those who frequently traverse this area, or for anyone planning to during these times, it's recommended to factor in some extra travel time. Missouri Department of Transportation cautions drivers to "use extreme caution while traveling near the area."
When driving, be patient. Expect slower traffic and delays due to roadwork. For additional information, contact Missouri Department of Transportation’s Customer Service Center toll-free at 1-888-ASK-MODOT (1-888-275-6636) or visit www.modot.org/southeast.
