Attention drivers in and around Cape Girardeau County: expect some disruptions on your journey come next month. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced that a stretch of southbound Interstate 55 will be subject to lane reductions due to essential roadside work. This will affect the section from mile marker 96.8 to mile marker 96.2, as reported by Missouri Department of Transportation.
The lane closures are scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 4, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., assuming the weather plays ball. So, if your daily commute involves this patch of I-55, you might want to pencil in some extra travel time or look for alternative routes. The work zone will be clearly signed, but accidents happen when caution is thrown to the wind. Motorists are urged to use an extreme caution while traveling near the area, as per the Missouri Department of Transportation.
