Upon the arrival of emergency responders, which included both patrol and fire personnel from the Sunnyvale DPS, one of the cars involved was found overturned and swiftly succumbing to an engulfing blaze. Efforts to rescue the driver were quickly mounted, but the rescuers could not but concede defeat to the ferocious fire, which rendered any attempt at rescue untenable.
