The community near Clayton State University is grappling with the ramifications of a deadly double shooting that claimed the lives of two young men. The father of one of the victims, 18-year-old Caden Moss-Dowdy, is speaking out in the aftermath of the tragedy that unfolded on the evening of January 15.

In an interview with FOX 5 Atlanta, Merrill Dowdy shared his profound sense of loss and the void left by the death of his son, whose life was cut abruptly short by a bullet. "I’m feeling lost, to be honest with you," he said. Dowdy remembered Caden as a young man full of potential, whose dreams of a boxing career, cut short by the incident, had been on the upswing after a significant period of recovery from a previous life-threatening injury.

The authorities have disclosed that surveillance video captured a group of four men shortly before the fatal shots were fired around 9 p.m. on Trammel Road. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, witnesses are urged to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation into the shooting, which also claimed the life of 20-year-old Jerome Franklin.

During a vigil attended by dozens, where the community gathered to remember the victims, Dowdy underscored the irreversible consequences of youth gun violence. "Think twice. It only takes a few seconds to think about the situation. Because once you draw that gun and take that person’s life, you’re taking your own life also," Dowdy told Atlanta News First. The university confirmed that none of those involved were students of Clayton State.

As the family faces the burden of funeral expenses, an online fundraiser has been established to support them during this difficult time. Members of the public who may have information related to the shootings are encouraged to contact the Clayton County Police Department. "There is no information that's not gonna be important to this investigation," Major Anthony Thurman stated to FOX 5 Atlanta. Police continue to search for not only the shooter but also the fourth individual present during the fatal event.
