Yesterday, a fire erupted in a third-floor apartment unit on N. Amphlett Boulevard in San Mateo, quickly becoming a situation demanding urgent action. According to a post from the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department, firefighters promptly responded, confining the blaze within the origin unit. This rapid response by SMC and Central County Fire crews prevented what could have been a more devastating spread to adjacent apartments.
Upon arrival at the scene, the units were met with flames erupting from two sides of the affected unit. Despite the formidable appearance, firefighters skillfully managed a fast knockdown of the inferno. Still, 1 individual necessitated transportation to the hospital, suffering from inhalation injuries, while a total of 12 residents, including those from the adjoining units, watched as their homes became uninhabitable. The American Red Cross Northern California later assisted these displaced individuals.
The cause behind this sudden fire remains unknown, with investigations ongoing to unravel the sequence that led to this tragedy.
