The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has taken Amber Nicole Ferguson, a 33-year-old former Athens-Clarke County Police Officer, into custody on charges of Sexual Exploitation of Children. A press release issued by the GBI reports that Ferguson, a resident of Commerce, GA, surrendered to authorities at the Jackson County Jail without incident early yesterday morning.
According to the GBI press release, the arrest stems from allegations that Ferguson took sexually explicit photographs of a child. The original complaint surfaced prior to the involvement of the state bureau and was submitted by a concerned family member, prompting the City of Commerce Police Department to quickly seek the GBI's expertise on December 1, 2024.
The GBI has indicated that the investigation is currently active and ongoing. In view of gathering further evidence or leads, they have made a public plea for any individual who may possess critical information regarding the case. They're urging those people to come forward and contact the regional investigative office in Athens directly at 706-552-2309. Similarly, anonymous tips can be submitted through several channels: a phone call to 1-800-597-TIPS (8477), an online submission at their official website, or by using the "See Something, Send Something" mobile app.
Once the GBI completes their in-depth probe, the case file is scheduled to be delivered to the Piedmont Judicial Circuit, who will subsequently take over the prosecution process.
