Former LSU football standout Kyren Lacy is now in custody following a deadly hit-and-run crash that occurred in December of last year, as confirmed by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office. According to a report by WDSU, Lacy turned himself in at approximately 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening. Less than two hours later, after posting a $151,000 bail, Lacy was released from custody at 8:11 p.m.

The incident, which led to the arrest warrant, involved Lacy allegedly recklessly passing multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed in a no-passing zone, leading to the tragedy. The Louisiana State Police, according to a release obtained by WWLTV, stated Lacy’s actions resulted in a collision that claimed the life of 78-year-old Herman Hall and injured two others. Lacy purportedly left the crash scene without stopping to render aid or report his involvement.

The crash took place on Dec. 17 on LA Highway 20 near Perez Lane. A statement by Louisiana State Police detailed that a pickup truck driver had to swiftly brake and swerve to avoid a collision with Lacy's vehicle, and in the process, a following Kia Cadenza swerved left, colliding head-on with Hall's Kia Sorento. Herman Hall later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, as per 247Sports.

Troop C confirmed Lacy’s status as a former LSU football player to WWLTV, and the university's spokesperson, Zach Greenwell, stated, "We have no comment at this time out of respect for the legal process." Lacy faces charges of negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle. These events unfolded shortly before Lacy had been set to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft.

As the legal proceedings continue to unfold, officials have yet to release further details about the ongoing investigation or potential forthcoming court dates. Lacy and his legal representation have not publicly commented on the charges since the accused’s recent release.
