A fire broke out on a 100-foot yacht in Fort Lauderdale this past weekend, drawing a fast response from local firefighters. The blaze, which erupted in the yacht's engine room, necessitated the intervention of Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue crews who arrived at the scene at 2301 Southeast 17th Street. NBC Miami reported no injuries from the incident.
The Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Department dispatched both of their fire boats to combat the fire, along with assistance from a county fire boat. According to information provided by Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue spokesman Frank Guzman, the flames were extinguished about 20 minutes following the firefighters' arrival. Local 10 included Guzman confirming that an investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.
Firefighting teams faced fierce flames as they worked to contain the fire at the docked vessel located behind Pier 66 on Southeast 17th Street. Video footage released by fire rescue teams showed them actively dousing the flames in a prompt action that potentially averted a larger crisis. Despite the dramatic scenes, there was a collective relief as it was confirmed that no one had been hurt in the incident.
Though the damage to the yacht has not been fully assessed, the prompt reaction of the emergency crews enabled them to manage the situation effectively, ensuring the safety of nearby individuals and property. The cause of the fire remains unclear, and as WSVN noted, though no injuries have been reported, the investigation will continue to determine what initiated the blaze aboard the luxury vessel.
