
After serving 25 years, Sergeant Bob Kupczyk of the Franklin Police Department hung up his badge during a retirement ceremony last Friday, a career that began in 2000 was celebrated by his colleagues, family, and friends at the police headquarters, marking the end of his tenure, Kupczyk reminisced about his journey in law enforcement expressing his honor in serving the citizens of Franklin where he forged countless memories and friendships as reported in news released by the City of Franklin's official website.
Sgt. Kupczyk ventured into the realm of law enforcement in 1995 first bringing his dedication to the Village of Bourbonnais, Ill. Police Department, before moving to the Kankakee, Ill. Metropolitan Enforcement Group, and eventually finding his place within the Franklin Police, where he became a SWAT member and took on the role of a field training officer, he saw a promotion to Sergeant in 2008, and throughout his time, he witnessed the evolution of policing, faced the day-to-day pressures of the job, and committed to the welfare of the community he served.
Prior to his career in Franklin, Kupczyk studied at Olivet Nazarene University, where he played football on a scholarship and earned a B.A. in Social Justice, a framework that influenced his approach to law enforcement with a focus on fairness and community interaction, Police Chief Deb Faulkner praised Kupczyk's impact, specifically highlighting his expertise in training officers, "Sergeant Kupczyk has been a tremendous asset to this department," Faulkner said, and as shared by the City of Franklin's news release, "We will miss him and wish him a wonderful retirement."
Embracing a new chapter in life, the now former Sergeant Kupczyk is set to dedicate more time to his personal affairs, particularly to his five children with whom he looks forward to creating more personal memories in the years to come, the community and Kupczyk's colleagues will remember his legacy through the mark he left on the department, the lives he's touched, and the standards he's set, the details of Kupczyk's career and retirement ceremony are documented by the City of Franklin.
