Honolulu workers and business owners are invited to attend free, hands-on workshops offered by the Hawai‘i State Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DLIR) to assist with federal OSHA recordkeeping requirements. The DLIR’s Occupational Safety and Health Division (HIOSH) will host these sessions on select Thursdays and Fridays in January and February 2025.
DLIR Director Jade T. Butay emphasized the significance of these workshops, stating, "Accurate recordkeeping helps employers and workers to evaluate the safety of the workplace, understand hazards, and prevent future workplace injuries and illnesses," in a statement obtained by the DLIR. With a focus to both educate and equip, these sessions aim to not only make sure employers are compliant but to also fundamentally improve workplace safety and health.
Interested parties are encouraged to quickly secure their spot, as these courses are expected to fill up fast and no walk-ins will be allowed. All registrations can be processed through the official DLIR website. The workshops will unfold at 830 Punchbowl St., Room 427, Honolulu, with some special sessions taking place at the Building Industry Association of Hawaii (BIA Hawaii) Construction Training Center in Waipahu.
During these workshops, participants will learn exactly which businesses must maintain OSHA recordkeeping forms and when an injury or illness should actually be considered "recordable." You can also expect to become well-acquainted with how to properly complete the forms, get the latest updates to recordkeeping requirements, and understand the consequences of failing to comply. Detailed information about the workshops is available on the DLIR website or by contacting Edmar Castillo via email or at 808-586-9089.
