Gilbert residents, get ready for a traffic shake-up. The Arizona Department of Transportation has announced that a key off-ramp on the eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) at Gilbert Road is scheduled for closure. Starting at the witching hour of 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, the road will be off-limits to vehicular passage for a projected 60 days owing to ramp reconstruction, according to a statement from the Town of Gilbert.
The Loop 202 widening efforts will cause further disruptions, with the westbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Gilbert Road closing for 60 days starting Sunday, Feb. 9. The westbound Loop 202 off-ramp at Cooper Road, it is going to join the list with a 60-day hiatus from Wednesday, Feb. 26. The transformation of the roadway will continue with the westbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Val Vista Drive also taking a 60-day break commencing on Thursday, March 13, as detailed by the Town of Gilbert.
For those seeking alternate routes, ADOT suggests considering the eastbound off-ramps at Cooper or Lindsay roads. However, they note that these schedules are as unpredictable as the desert weather, and may shift subject to change due to weather and other unforeseen factors.
It's not just about road improvements, but also about safety. In the interest of those building a better travel experience and motorists alike, speed limits are being capped at a modest 55 miles per hour through these zones. "Slow down, stay alert and be prepared to merge with caution when approaching and traveling through all work zones," urges the department, as seen on the Town of Gilbert's announcement. For those eager to learn more about the ongoing Loop 202 (Santan Freeway), Loop 101 to Val Vista Drive widening project and the myriad closures that are nipping at its heels, more information awaits at ADOT's project webpage.
