Gilbert, Arizona has ushered in a new era of political leadership, with the swearing-in of Mayor Scott Anderson and two councilmembers, Kenny Buckland and Monte Lyons. The ceremony, which took place yesterday, signified the commencement of their four-year tenure at the realm of the town's government. “I love Gilbert! I want to thank my family for their support. Something I noticed on my son’s wall was house rules and I think Gilbert should have some house rules over the next few years too: 1. Try new things. 2. Be kind to one another. 3. Learn from your mistakes. 4. Respect one another and don’t be afraid to say you’re sorry. 5. Embrace change, be yourself. 6. Live in the moment and dream big. I look forward to serving you for the next four years,” Mayor Anderson declared, presenting what he dubbed as 'house rules' for his term, according to the town's official release.

Having retired from his previous municipal role in the Town of Gilbert in 2013, Anderson returned as an elected figure, joining the Town Council in 2016, before reaching the mayoral position. The newly sworn-in councilmembers are stepping in after a clear show of public trust. Buckland, making his debut on the council, replaces Kathy Tilque, and Lyons fills the gap left by Anderson's ascendancy to mayor. "It’s such an honor to find out that you’re elected and that the community chose you to represent them," said Buckland, as per the official release.

Echoing the sentiments of responsibility and gratitude, Lyons addressed his willingness to serve: "I want to thank my family for all the sacrifices they made. I’m going to work, make you all proud and make Gilbert the place that we’re all proud to be a part of," he told the public, as mentioned on the town's official website.

In their first official action, the newly seated Gilbert Town Council members unanimously voted to appoint Councilmember Bobbi Buchli as Vice Mayor. The council, consisting of the mayor and six members, meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month to discuss town matters. Their next meeting is scheduled for January 28.
