Glendale was the scene of a tragic officer-involved shooting on Wednesday evening, resulting in one man's death and another's critical injury, as confirmed by local authorities. The Glendale Police Department, responding to a domestic violence call around 7 p.m. at the intersection of 47th Avenue and Glendale Avenue, said they were alerted to a situation where a woman reported being threatened with a gun by a man who had since fled in a vehicle, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix.
The suspect, who left the scene before officers arrived, was later spotted by police near 47th Avenue and Diana Avenue, south of Olive Avenue, in the said vehicle— officers upon arrival found an individual matching the suspect's description outside the truck and despite initial compliance when ordered to show his hands, the suspect purportedly dropped them and reached for an unidentified object. This prompted the shooting by an officer which led to his death on the scene, as detailed by AZ Family.
This fatal incident marks the first officer-involved shooting in the Valley and statewide for the year 2025. A secondary victim was also discovered with life-threatening injuries at the scene and was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment. The nature of these injuries and the connection to the deceased has yet to be established, with the Glendale Police stating that "the investigation is ongoing on the relationship of these two individuals," as stated by FOX 10 Phoenix. No officers sustained injuries during the encounter.
