
The Gwinnett County Police Department answered an overwhelming 1,819 calls over the span of less than 24 hours amid harsh weather conditions that battered the region. This call volume was recorded between 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday and 12:00 p.m. yesterday. As the Gwinnett County community grappled with this severe weather, a staggering 572 of these calls were due to traffic accidents.
According to the official Gwinnett County website, two police officers sustained minor injuries in the line of duty while tending to these weather-related incidents. Moreover, the police department's resources were put to the test as eight police vehicles found themselves entangled in traffic-related accident.
With calls flooding in, 911 operators and officers on the ground were pushed to their limits, many working extended hours to ensure that the surge in assistance requests were managed effectively. The extreme conditions wrought by the weather event challenged the infrastructure of emergency services, prompting an all-hands-on-deck approach from the Gwinnett County Police Department.
