
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office took to social media to extend their congratulations to one of their own. In a post that shone the light on meritorious service and quick action, HCSO Detention Deputy Abdirahman was named Corrections Officer of the Year. The commendation follows an incident where Deputy Abdirahman deftly handled a medical emergency within the walls of the Adult Detention Center, showcasing his ability to act swiftly and ensure safety for all involved.
According to the Facebook post by the sheriff's office, the incident unfolded in 2023 when Deputy Abdirahman was alerted of an inmate in medical distress. Not only did he provide immediate medical aid, he also had to securely remove illicit narcotics from the inmate, notify medical staff, and call for an ambulance. All actions that undeniably helped to quickly save the inmate's life while maintaining order within the correctional facility. His actions were deservedly recognized at a recent Gopher game.
The Gopher game event also included an awards ceremony for the MN 100 Club First Responder of the Year Award, a time when heroes are celebrated across various essential services. Detention Deputy Abdirahman, in his receiving of the Corrections Officer of the Year award, stood amongst peers from firefighting, EMS/EMT, and public safety telecommunications, shedding light on the collective effort and valor of these communities.
Recognizing the outstanding service of Detention Deputy Abdirahman serves not only to honor his individual dedication but also to symbolically tip the hat to many others in his position, who regularly and reliably serve their communities. The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office post culminated with a simple but powerful "Congrats to all!" acknowledging the collective efforts of first responders in making Minnesota a safer place for all its residents.
