The truck, spotted on Mission Boulevard at Mowry Avenue, failed to stop for police, leading to a chase brought to a halt by a pursuit intervention technique on Gurdwara Road. The police department initiated the chase because a firearm was involved, and they believed there was a threat to public safety, which necessitated immediate response and a strategic course of action to ensure the peril did not escalate.
Navroop Sandhu, a 33-year-old Fremont local, was the man found inside the truck. He refused to comply with officers despite their strategic use of de-escalation tactics, remaining inside the vehicle where the firearm was accessible. Subsequently, less-lethal measures were employed to apprehend him safely, according to the Fremont Police Department's report.
The firearm was recovered, and Sandhu, who sustained minor injuries during the arrest, was then charged with three felonies, including evading a peace officer and unlawful taking or driving of a vehicle; the report details all the charges while urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
