As temperatures drop, the City of Houston Office of Emergency Management is preparing for colder weather. Residents are urged to take precautions, with the Office of Emergency Management providing tips to help keep people, pets, and property safe.
Under the direction of Office of Emergency Management Director Brian Mason, the city is preparing for the incoming cold weather, though it is not expected to be as severe as the 2021 winter storm. “Based on the forecast, we do not expect this cold front to resemble the winter storm 2021; however, we are working with our partners to ensure resources are in place should conditions change, our priority remains to ensure the community is ready and to minimize disruptions,” Mason said, as reported by the Office of Emergency Management.
As cold weather approaches, the Houston Office of Emergency Management is advising residents to stay warm, check on vulnerable neighbors, bring pets indoors or provide shelter, insulate exposed pipes, and protect plants from frost. The city is also preparing for possible icy roads and will activate warming centers if needed. Updates will be available on the Office of Emergency Management’s website and social media.
