A piece of Phoenix history has just changed hands. The former Rockefeller mansion, positioned within the elite Biltmore Estates, has been sold for $5 million, as reported by the Phoenix Business Journal on January 19th. Notably, this property was crafted by the illustrious Rockefeller family, dating back to 1967. Frank Aazami, brand ambassador at Russ Lyon | Sotheby's International Realty, indicated that only two families have to historically owned this 10,030-square-foot estate. The latest sale was necessitated by the previous owner’s passing, after two and a half decades of ownership.

The seven-bedroom, 10-bathroom residence boasts a prime location overlooking the Estates Course at Arizona Biltmore Golf Club. According to the Ground News, the mansion's recent transaction underscores its claim to fame with its prestigious Rockefeller creation legacy. The expansive grounds include nearly an acre, providing ample room to, potentially, add separate structures in the future.

The estate's new proprietors, Lisa Shields and Scott Riddle, are already familiar with historic property ownership, citing another historic home in their portfolio located in Coronado, California. "We both love historic homes," Shields said in a statement to the Phoenix Business Journal. They treasure the architectural design by Vernon Swaback, who was an apprentice to Frank Lloyd Wright, which helped seal their decision to purchase.

Despite the home's impressive features—including a commercial-grade mechanical system, a steel-framed structure, and a metal roof—Shields stated they plan only to undertake minor updates to the residence, which last saw renovations in 2018. For them, it seems, to own a property with a Rockefeller heritage is more than just a bonus—it's a responsibility for preservation.

The Biltmore Estates area has recently observed a spike in exclusive real estate transactions. Preceding this sale, Aazami facilitated a $7.9 million cash sale of another Biltmore mansion in early December. Moreover, another home listed for $10 million underscores the high stakes and significant market interest in this affluent Phoenix area. Aazami noted the rarity of such turnover within these limits, as owners typically hold these valued estates for long periods.
