Three individuals involved in the killing of Chris Beaty during the chaos following protests in downtown Indianapolis will remain in prison, facing sentences of 108 and 164 years. The Indiana Court of Appeals upheld their convictions, despite attempts by the defense to challenge the trial's validity, according to the Attorney General's Office release.

Attorney General Todd Rokita's office emphasized the significance of the case, stating, "We lost a beloved community member in a horrific attack in May of 2020," in the same release. The office is committed to keeping offenders off the streets and ensuring the safety of Hoosiers.

The events took place after the death of George Floyd, when Indianapolis, like many cities, saw protests that turned violent. On May 30, 2020, Marcus Anderson, Alijah Jones and Nakeyah Shields committed robberies, leading to a fatal confrontation with Beaty. After robbing two women at gunpoint, the situation escalated, and Beaty was shot and later died from his injuries.

All three individuals were convicted of felony murder, armed robbery, and attempted armed robbery. Despite their appeals, the Indiana Court of Appeals upheld their sentences.
