Allen Oscar Woods, a 39-year-old man from Hammond, Indiana, was arrested in Chicago on the Near West Side after being on the run following the alleged murder of his ex-wife, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. Tiffany Woods was shot multiple times on December 27, and Woods had fled Indiana, apparently seeking refuge in the Chicago area to evade law enforcement.
After a days-long search and a public appeal for assistance, a tip came in around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday when someone spotted a man matching Woods' description near the 1200 block of South Canal Street, this development according to both local sources and, the U.S. Marshals Service, they engaged local authorities to apprehend the suspect. Chicago police and the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force responded to the location and found Woods inside an establishment on the 1400 block of South Canal Street, where he was then taken into custody without incident, WGN-TV has learned.
The charges against Allen Oscar Woods have been filed in Lake Criminal Court for the death of his ex-wife, although, at this time, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
The details surrounding the fatal incident are scant, and what led to the deadly shooting is yet to be reported, with authorities still piecing together the circumstances of the December 27th altercation. The case continues to develop as Woods awaits his day in court.
