The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting and aggravated assault in Camden County, Georgia, involving Rodney Rauls Roundtree, 55, who was wounded. Two other men were also injured, but no law enforcement officers were harmed, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
On Wednesday, a conflict broke out at a home on the 1700 block of Kinlaw Road, precipitating an altercation between Roundtree and another male. After the argument, Roundtree is purported to have armed himself, discharging the firearm, thereby injuring the man. Roundtree is alleged to have taken a walk down Kinlaw Road and began to slightly randomly fire at individuals within a substation, resulting in damage to several vehicles, as reported by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
The situation reportedly escalated as Roundtree encountered a man driving a van along the same road. Roundtree is accused of shooting multiple times at the van, subsequently wounding the driver. Following this, the escalation continued until Roundtree stood at the crossroads of Kinlaw Road and Harriets Bluff Road where he met law enforcement. On this occasion, gunfire was exchanged, with officers firing back and ultimately injuring Roundtree.
After the incident, Roundtree and two others were taken to hospitals for treatment. Law enforcement plans to file multiple charges against Roundtree. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will conduct an independent review, and the findings will be sent to the Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney for further action.
