An Irvine DJ, known by the stage name "DJ Novus," faces serious accusations after being charged with the molestation of a minor, officials say. Haifeng Cai, 37, was arrested following allegations involving a 12-year-old boy he met while working at the Odyssey Virtual Reality store at the Irvine Spectrum, as reported by the Orange County District Attorney's Office. He now confronts three felony counts of committing lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14, which could result in a maximum sentence of 12 years in state prison, provided the court finds him guilty on all charges. Currently, Cai remains incarcerated in Orange County, his bail set at a steep $1 million.
Authorities zeroed in on Cai after a security guard detected suspicious activity inside a car with fogged-up windows at the Irvine Spectrum on December 14, 2024. According to the Orange County District Attorney's Office, subsequent investigations reveal evidence that points to Cai engaging in inappropriate contact with the child on three different occasions. A statement obtained by the DA's office details that "the sexual abuse of an innocent child is something that should outrage our entire community," as expressed by District Attorney Todd Spitzer.
While the community grapples with the disturbing nature of the charges, Irvine police urge anyone with further information about Cai or other potential victims to come forward. Detective David Misko is handling inquiries, and individuals with relevant information are encouraged to contact him directly at 949-724-7168 or via email at [email protected], as per the Orange County District Attorney's Office. In the wake of the arrest, the prosecution is being led by Senior Deputy District Attorney Kelcie Wiemann of the Sexual Assault Unit, focusing on delivering justice for the alleged young victim.
