Kenya Wicks has been officially sworn in as State Senator for Georgia's 34th Senate District, as reported yesterday, marking the beginning of her term coinciding with the commencement of the 2025 Georgia Legislative Session. Wicks, a Fayette County resident, now represents portions of Clayton and Fayette counties within the Peach State.
After the ceremony, Senator Wicks shared her enthusiasm for the opportunity to serve, saying, "It is an honor to serve the citizens of Georgia under the Gold Dome,” and she emphasized her commitment to the constituents, "In this role, I will remain deeply committed to representing and championing the needs of the 34th Senate District. Please do not hesitate to contact my office if I can serve you throughout the remainder of this legislative session," a pledge that illustrates her readiness to engage with and support her community, according to the Senate Press.
The new Senator comes to the legislative body with a wealth of experience; before her election, Wicks had a distinguished military career. Her journey began with enlisting in the United States Army, rising to Sergeant First Class, and then being commissioned as an officer in 2008. Her service concluded with her retirement as a Major after 30 years. Wicks' leadership continued post-military as she served as Chief of Staff for outgoing Sen. Valencia Seay and remained active in civic life through various local organizations.
In her new role, Wicks has also been appointed Deputy Minority Whip, a position that grants her considerable influence in the legislative process and she has been named as a member of multiple Senate committees including, Veterans, Military and Homeland Security, Science & Technology, Urban Affairs, Public Safety and Government Oversight; the assignments reflecting her diverse areas of expertise and commitment to tackling a broad range of issues that affect her district and the state at large.
