Laredo CBP Officers Arrest Local Man on Outstanding Felony Warrant for Alleged Indecency with a ChildSource: U.S. Customs and Border Protection

Yesterday, at the Gateway to the Americas Bridge, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers made a significant arrest when they took into custody a Laredo man on a felony warrant for an alleged sex crime involving a minor. The local man, identified as Juan Geronimo Hernandez, 35, encountered the CBP during routine border security operations.

While Hernandez attempted to cross the border on foot, CBP officers directed him to a secondary inspection where the use of biometric verification and national databases confirmed his identity and the outstanding warrant from the Webb County Sheriff’s Office, as "our frontline officers continue to uphold our border security mission and demonstrated that through a recent apprehension of a man wanted on an outstanding felony warrant for a sex-related offense involving a child," said Port Director Albert Flores, Laredo Port of Entry.

The arrest warrant stemmed from a charge of indecency with a child for which Hernandez failed to appear in court, the severity of the situation was underscored by the CBP's commitment to community safety as their officers are often the first line of defense against various forms of criminal activity.

Following his arrest, Hernandez was transported to Webb County jail; there, he will face the charges as outlined in the warrant which the National Crime Information Center, a tool for sharing crime-related information amongst law enforcement agencies, made possible to identify outstanding warrants ranging from homicides, money laundering to sexual child abuse and military desertion, criminal charges are merely allegations, and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
