In recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the City of Las Cruces will be closing most of its offices on Monday, January 20th. Despite the holiday closures, residents can rest assured that all emergency services, such as police and fire departments, will continue to operate as normal, as detailed by the City of Las Cruces.
City facilities that will be taking a day off include a variety of community and recreational centers, such as East Mesa Recreation Center and the Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center. The Las Cruces Museum System and the city's public libraries are also on the list of closures. Yet, some vital services such as the Rio Grande Theatre and All Senior Programs facilities will remain closed. For those planning to visit or use city services, it is advisable to check the full list of closures and adjusted operating hours.
Nevertheless, there are still some recreational options available for the public. The Las Cruces Natatorium and the Regional Aquatic Center, both located at 1401 E. Hadley Ave., will be open for a limited time in the morning. Residents looking to keep active during the holiday can also head to the Meerscheidt Recreation Center, which will welcome visitors in the afternoon from 1 to 5 p.m.
Municipal services such as solid waste collection will not see an interruption on MLK Day, with pickups occurring as scheduled on Monday for residents and commercial customers alike. Similarly, RoadRUNNER Transit and Dial-A-Ride services will maintain their regular service levels throughout the day. Curbside recycling collection will also remain unaffected for those having their recycling picked up on the holiday. The South Central Solid Waste Transfer Station and other associated landfill sites will operate under usual schedules, ensuring the city's waste management needs are fully met.
