In the rugged outskirts of Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue (LVMPDSAR) team is focusing on wilderness emergency response. As posted on their social media, throughout January, the newest additions to this esteemed unit are undergoing a rigorous training process.
The training is designed to closely simulate real-world conditions, excluding actual distress calls. Two new SAR officers are at the center of these exercises, tasked with planning a rescue operation from start to finish. With guidance from their veteran counterparts, they are required to handle these scenarios with a small team of four. According to the social media post shared by LVMPDSAR, "Both scenarios required the new officers to plan the operation from start to finish with only a small team of four including themselves."
The scenarios are diverse and challenging, tailored to test the limits of these officers' abilities to strategize, prioritize, and persevere. "They'll do multiple training scenarios before completing their mountain rescue final training exercise that they must pass to continue in the training program," LVMPDSAR stated on their post.
Each staged scenario, meticulously crafted, is another step closer to the reality these officers will ultimately face.
