A fatal collision in Las Vegas at the start of the new year resulted in the death of a young motorcyclist. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's report, the crash occurred yesterday, at around 7:03 p.m. at the intersection of East Flamingo Road and South Mojave Drive. A 2006 Suzuki motorcycle collided with a 2015 Nissan Versa during an attempt by the latter to turn left on a flashing yellow arrow signal.
The initial investigation shows that the Suzuki was moving eastbound on Flamingo Road at a speed exceeding the posted limit, and the motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, had the right of way with a green traffic signal. The Nissan, driven by 24-year-old Katherine De Leon Caro, was simultaneously making the turn from westbound Flamingo to southbound Mojave, intersecting the motorcycle's path and causing the accident. No signs of impairment were shown by Katherine De Leon Caro at the scene.
At the scene, Emergency Medical Services and police were dispatched following the collision reports. Despite the rapid response and life-saving attempts, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead after being ejected from the bike and landing on the roadway. His identity is pending as investigations continue.
The driver of the Nissan, who sustained minor injuries, cooperated fully with law enforcement officials. This incident marks the first traffic-related fatality within the jurisdiction of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for the year 2025. The LVMPD Collision Investigation Section is conducting further investigations to piece together the details of this incident.
