
A tragic incident unfolded early Tuesday morning when a 67-year-old crossing guard, serving the community outside Vae View Elementary School in Layton, was fatally hit by a vehicle. In the vicinity of 1600 North and Main Street, the guard, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, was performing his duty when struck by a northbound car. FOX 13 reported that the driver, a woman whose name has not been released, is cooperating with the police department in the wake of the incident.
According to ABC4, the crash occurred around 8:30 a.m., leading authorities to quickly respond to the scene. Lt. Travis Lyman with the Layton Police Department confirmed the timeline of the event to ABC4, although it remains to be established whether children were present on the road at the time of the accident. Fortunately, no child injuries have been reported.
The involvement of law enforcement from multiple departments underscores the gravity of the situation. Assisting in the ongoing investigation are the Utah Highway Patrol and the Clearfield Police Department, pointing to the seriousness with which this unfortunate event is being treated.
