The City of Las Cruces has officially named Lesley Doyle as its new Finance Director, bringing on board an individual with a depth of experience in governmental accounting and financial management. According to the City of Las Cruces Doyle's career spans over 25 years, and includes significant leadership roles and expertise in managing complex financial operations, strictly ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
In her most recent role before the appointment, Doyle acted as Chief Finance Officer for Deming Public Schools in Deming, New Mexico. Her responsibilities there encompassed managing the school district's budget and supervising finance-related departments. She also had a hand in analyzing and effectuating school board policies, providing financial training to district administration, and consulting with financial advisors on issuing long-term debt.
Doyle's track record started in the city where she now leads the finance department. She cut her teeth as a Public Services and Facilities Accountant at the City of Las Cruces, where she developed expertise in preparing consolidated annual financial statements, journal entries, and account reconciliations. From there, she moved on to New Mexico State University (NMSU) in 2004. As an Accountant III and later as Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting at NMSU, Doyle was accountable for preparing financial statements, calculating overhead rates, monitoring assets and revenue, and much more. Her ascent in the field was marked by a dedication to detail and regulatory compliance.
Her education aligns closely with her career trajectory, having earned both her Bachelor of Accountancy and Master of Business Administration from New Mexico State University. This solid academic foundation has well-prepared her to manage the often intricate financial networks of public institutions and to effectively lead the fiscal strategies of her alma mater’s city. With Doyle's selection as Finance Director, Las Cruces seems to be strategically positioning itself to manage its monetary affairs with an experienced hand at the helm.
