
A fatal collision between an SUV and a bicyclist has left a 38-year-old man from Macon, Georgia dead in Yulee last night. The incident occurred close to 10:45 p.m. on Blackrock Road, in the vicinity of McGirts Creek Road, as reported by First Coast News. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the cyclist was traveling in the same direction as the SUV, just outside the lane near the fog line when the crash occurred.
The driver of the SUV, a 22-year-old woman from Yulee, appears to have been unable to properly see the cyclist and hit the rear of the bicycle with the front right side of her vehicle. Details from WOKV reveal that Nassau Fire Rescue pronounced the man dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was reportedly wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and did not sustain injuries.
As investigations continue to unfold, no clear determinations regarding the cause have been publicly disclosed. News4Jax stated that the circumstances leading up to the tragic event are still under scrutiny by authorities.
