Tragedy has struck the community of Madison, Georgia, following the deaths of two Morgan County Middle School students in an ATV accident. The Morgan County Sheriff's Office confirmed the details of the incident. FOX 5 Atlanta reported the accident occurred over the recent holiday weekend.
The school district, through a post on the Morgan County Charter Schools' Facebook page, announced that counselors will be available to support the school community, which includes approximately 750 students, and the staff numbering 102, as they deal with the aftermath of the accident. The Georgia State Patrol, which is leading the investigation into the incident, has yet to release comprehensive details. As per an official statement from Sheriff Tyler Hooks obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta, "On behalf of the Morgan County Sheriff's Office, I extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of these two young men. This is a heartbreaking incident that has shaken our small community. Our hearts go out to their loved ones as they navigate this unimaginable loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, and we will provide support to them in any way we can."
Additionally, the school district emphasized the gravity of the situation and the support mechanisms put in place, as communicated through The Georgia Sun's reporting, "Counselors are being made available to support students, staff, and families at Morgan County Middle School, which serves about 750 students."
