A man was hospitalized this morning following a shooting incident in northwest Miami-Dade, which detectives are investigating as a suspected case of road rage. The violence unfolded on NW 27th Avenue near NW 101st Street just before 8:30 a.m., and the man subsequently sought help at a nearby gas station.
According to CBS News Miami, a local resident, Justin Ceus, reported hearing an argument before the sound of gunfire. "More than likely it was two cars that got into an altercation. You know, one said this, one said that and then a few shots went off," he told the publication. "The four shots were really loud, really loud."
The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office has yet to confirm if any suspects have been taken into custody; however, they stated that the victim is stable at the Ryder Trauma Center. Eyewitness Gina Hernandez expressed her fear for her son's safety in statements obtained by CBS News Miami, underlying the senseless proximity of violence in daily life. "When I got closer to it to see what was going on, I saw the guy bleeding. He was bleeding everywhere. So he was already on the phone with 911. You're always going to have bad stuff going on in the suburbs. Everywhere it's bad. What really concerns me is my son, my son is 15 years old. He could have been walking to the gas station to buy candy and that bullet could have hit him. That concerns me. God forbid that doesn't ever happen," she said.
Additional details emerged from WSVN, which reported that the ShotSpotter alert system notified police of the shooting at the Mobil gas station, located just a couple blocks away from the site where witnesses heard the argument. Hernandez, who also helped the injured man call 911, recalled to the outlet, "I was walking down the alley and I seen a guy full of blood." She maintained hope for the victim, saying, “All I can say is I hope the guy is alright. I hope he’s alive. I hope he’s good and be careful out here in these street man. These streets aren’t easy out here.”
Police cordoned off areas around the gas station and canvased for evidence, with investigations extending to a nearby restaurant. While they covered the license plate of a white car parked outside the eatery, suggesting a potential link, no arrests have been reported. The condition of the victim was not disclosed. Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers has called for the public's assistance in the case and offers a reward for information leading to an arrest.
