
In a fatal encounter at a West Side apartment complex, San Antonio law enforcement report that a 27-year-old man was mortally wounded, identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office as Frank Vallejo Jr.; this grim scenario unfolded amidst a domestic argument turned violent yesterday, according to KSAT.
Police responded to the reported shooting around midday at the complex located at the 8300 block of Potranco Road, near Loop 410 where they found Vallejo with multiple gunshot wounds in an apartment breezeway, the suspect, a 24-year-old man who also fathered a 6-year-old child with Vallejo's girlfriend, had fled the scene with the child after the shooting which left Vallejo dead on the scene details given by SAPD were sparse but they indicated the argument escalated when the suspect produced a weapon and fired multiple shots at Vallejo, in the subsequent unrest, the suspect seized the moment to take his child and momentarily escaped the grasp of justice.
The suspect's escape was short-lived as he was later discovered in another apartment within the same complex, occupied by a relative of his, following a brief negotiation with authorities the suspect surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody, the child was found unharmed, as stated in a news conference covered by KSAT; fortunately, there were no additional injuries reported in the incident.
In a separate incident that echoes public safety concerns, New Orleans dealt with a harrowing situation on New Year's Day, when a vehicle driven by Shamsud-Din Jabbar crashed into a crowd on Bourbon Street, an occurrence that has since drawn criticism over city safety measures and the efficacy or lack thereof of the installed bollards, councilman JP Morrell voiced his consternation to Headtopics saying, "It’s very troubling that this problem was identified in 2019 and the incoming City Council was not made aware of this recommendation, nor were we made aware of what steps were being taken to resolve this significant issue," sparking debate on the city's approach to safeguarding festive occasions, Concentric Security meanwhile defended the bollard system, but questions remain as to why the city did not use available temporary barriers for the event.
