A 21-year-old man, sustaining a gunshot wound to the face, sought help from police officers after a violent encounter in the Hyde Park neighborhood on a Saturday afternoon. According to a release from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the individual was observed driving erratically at a high rate of speed before stopping near patrolling officers. He was found to have what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his cheek, inflicted at close range. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department reports he had been shot near the intersection of Knapp and Hebert.
The report points out that upon seeing the officers, the man exited his vehicle to disclose the incident of two suspects approaching and beginning to shoot at him. In response, he managed to quickly drive away and eventually pull up to seek the officers' aid. The timing of his approach to law enforcement is notable, as the man sought protection seemingly instinctively after the altercation.
Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to the hospital following the incident. He was said to be in critical but stable condition. Fourth District Detectives have taken charge of the ongoing investigation, seeking to unravel the events that led up to the shooting and to pinpoint the perpetrators responsible for the violent act.
