A violent carjacking incident in Parkway Village led to one man being shot after he attempted to chase down the carjackers on Saturday night. According to a report by WREG, the victim and his brother were traveling on Chuck Avenue when they were flagged down by two women in the back seat of a grey Nissan Altima. It quickly escalated as two men, previously unseen in the front seats, emerged with guns drawn and demanded that the brothers exit their vehicle.
The brothers complied, but as the carjackers drove away in the brothers' vehicle, one of the men made the decision to dangerously try and chase after the stolen car. This led to the carjackers firing multiple shots at him, resulting in a gunshot wound to his left leg. This account of events was similarly detailed by an article from FOX13 Memphis, which additionally noted that the Memphis Police Department rendered first aid to the injured man before he was transported for treatment.
The investigation continued into the early hours of the following morning when Memphis Police located the stolen 2011 GMC Terrain, as per Action News 5. The found vehicle was parked on the right shoulder of Henry Avenue, with officers noting that the hood was cold to the touch, indicating it had not been driven recently.
Memphis Police report that the shooting occurred in front of Sheffield Career & Tech Center on Chuck Avenue. The victim, shot in the leg, was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition. Surveillance footage helped document the crime scene, showing the carjacking. The stolen GMC was found abandoned without any damage, indicating it had been parked for a while before being recovered by police.
